"It's vital that these songs don't lose any of their power
on a live stage. You're in front of a crowd, and you need to
be able to kick it up, bring it back and turn it up. Every song
on this album I imagined live."
Edwin spent most of last year holed up at a studio in his hometown
of Toronto following a cross-Canada tour and began writing and
recording 'Edwin & the Pressure.' "This album picks
up where the live shows have left off for me," explains
Edwin. "I adopted a more grassroots approach to writing
and recording this album. Every song was written with the live
element in mind. I love to tour and I feed off the audiences
reaction. I wanted to write a straight-ahead rock album that
fans can groove to."
To pull this off, Edwin needed to find the perfect blend of
musicians to communicate the energy and emotion on the new album
to a live audience. Already veterans of his 2001 Canadian tour,
Ron Bechard (guitar) and Kenny Cunningham (bass) were obvious
choices for the new Edwin & The Pressure. Completing the
crucial combination are Sekou Lumumba (drummer) and Mike K (guitar).
Sekou is renowned for his previous performances with Kardinal
Offishall and Ivana Santilli, and Mike K joined Edwin &
The Pressure following a worldwide tour with Nelly Furtado.
With each of them, Kenny, Ron, Sekou and Mike, their individual
musical styles and personalities blend to form the hard-hitting
new group so vital to deliver Edwin's new songs to the fans.
